“I, who happen to be a male, call a female colleague, to her face, a ‘stupid bitch’.May she, can she, ought she to take offence? If offence is to be taken, does thisdepend on the facts of the case? Had some of the facts been different (it was a malecolleague; it was a stranger; the phrase was actually ‘silly bugger’), would the answerto the question of whether offence was to be taken have been different?” Robin Barrow, Simon Fraser university
————————————–
Rep. Dave Upthegrove, D-Des Moines, – students in charge and responsible for fallouts
“If our next generation grows up without having an appreciation of their First Amendment rights, that has scary implications,” Upthegrove said.
———————————–
Pat Scales, a spokesperson for First Amendment issues-What is the essential conflict? Who is the main character? How does the author use language to define that character? Appealing to a student’s intellect will often diffuse a potential problem with a parent.
————————-
Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier

In this decision, the Court gave school officials extremely broad authority to censor all forms of student expression if they show that the censorship has a “reasonable” educational justification.

“We are preparing citizens for a life in this democratic society where free expression and press freedom are values we hold dear. Young people are not going to grasp those values if we don’t teach them by example – as well as by lesson.” -Mark Goodman, Executive Director of the Student Press Law Center,

My eyes are fully open to your awful situation

So Im writing you this letter to offer compensation

When the letter that you wrote to me arrived here tuesday morning

I discovered upon reading that we shuld have given you warning

Since the only possibility is that our wax is rancid

Im sending you a refund of all the money you advanced

Im sorry, but we have improved the floorwax batter

I hope you dont take your business else where

so I hoped we solved this matter.

Enclosed you’ll find a small container of the new stuff i talk about

just carefully remove the lid and

take a whiff if you’ve a doubt

I hope you did not have to alert the daily papers

about the news of how your office was affected by our vapors

which is why i choose to write to you this confedential letter

full of strong reccomendation that you use the new floorwax batter

I just hope it didnt require you to have your floor relaid

and if it did i will pay the bill.

Sincerley,

John Hudson
